What is Reiki?
Reiki (pronounced 'ray-key') is a Japanese technique for stress reduction + relaxation that promotes healing spiritually, mentally, physically + emotionally. "Rei", which means Higher Knowledge and "Ki", which means life force energy can be best understood as "Universal life force energy". The practice of Reiki is a healing technique that is administered by a specially attuned Practitioner. Energy travels from their hands to you, and more specifically the areas of focus.
During a session, you take only the energy that you need and it will always go to where it is most needed. It is used to activate the natural healing processes of the body treats the whole person, and is not a religion or medical in nature. This energy "movement" can create many beneficial effects that include relaxation, feelings of peace, security and well-being.
Each session is unique to you. During a session, intuitive guidance, sensations or messages may present themselves. You may feel cold or warm, experience emotional release, or simply feel deep relaxation. The intent is to restore energetic balance, support your body’s own ability to heal itself, and to provide a sense of being more in tune with yourself - mind, body, and spirit.

Reiki is a powerful yet non-invasive ancient Japanese energy healing technique that accelerates the body’s own healing abilities that is safe for everyone. Primarily, Reiki shifts your body’s stress response from its “fight-or-flight” state, to a more restful state during, and immediately after the session. In a standard treatment Reiki energy flows from the practitioners hands into the client, through the placement of her/his hands on, or above, the clients body. The client is fully clothed laying on a massage table, but treatments can also be given while the client is seated or even standing. Reiki can only do good.
Every person who receives Reiki has a different experience. Your experience from session to session can vary as well. Many people report feeling hot or cold sensations where the practitioner has their hands. Others have had mild to intense emotional reactions, reduced pain or a clearer mind. Most people feel a sense of calm in their bodies + a release of stress/anxiety. It is quite common for clients to fall asleep during a session.
For all of our services, please wear something comfortable + warm as you will get cold. There is no judgement, so you can even wear your sweats or PJ's if you like! We have additional blankets available, but you will want to maintain your cozy + relaxed state afterwards. Please bring a bottle of water with you as well, as you will get thirsty.
Yes! Many pregnant women have received Reiki treatments, and also practiced Restorative Yoga + Meditation, with great benefit to them + their unborn child. Reiki has even been known to be used during child birth.
Yes! With the permission of a parent or guardian, Reiki healing can be performed on children and is very healthy + beneficial to them! Babies and young children respond well to Reiki as they are more open to natural energies.
No. Reiki is non-invasive + can be combined with any conventional or naturopathic therapy. We will take extra care if you have an injury, bone fracture or joint pain, pacemaker, or any other areas of concern. We will work with you to find the most comfortable position when receiving Reiki (i.e. sitting, lying on the back, lying on the side etc.) and will ensure that you are supported with pillows and/or blankets as required during any of your sessions.
